Can-Am Maverick Turbo: Think you can handle this kind of horsepower?

Whether they’re kicking up mud or taking on the dunes, Can-Am has been a fan favorite when it comes to their tough and capable crossover utility vehicles (UTV) lineup. So, when the 2015 Can-Am Maverick 1000R Turbo X ds was introduced, it promised to be an advanced performance machine with power and capability unlike any other on the market.

Featuring an industry-leading power option provided by the new 121-hp Rotax 1000R turbocharger, the 2015 Can-Am Maverick 1000R X ds Turbo is an exceptional machine. As the industry’s first-ever factory-installed turbo side-by-side, this sporty UTV has 10 percent more horsepower and almost 40 percent more torque than its competitors. Power is immediate when you switch off idle—it basically jumps out of the sand!

It also boasts exceptional performance output and cutting-edge designs that can take on any terrain without sacrificing rider comfort or agility. One thing to keep in mind, though: this two-seater is equipped with standard seat belts only, not four-point harnesses, so you might get jolted around a bit as you pick up speed. Fortunately, passengers have a grab bar to hang on to if things get a little wild.

Starting with a totally redesigned rear end and an 88-inch wheelbase, the 1000R Turbo X ds is a massive upgrade from your standard Can-Am Maverick. Torsional Trailing A-arms (TTA) rear suspension and high-performance Fox 2.5 Podium RC2 shocks soak up whoops sections at high speeds without skipping a beat, while 16 inches of rear travel guarantee you’re in for a smooth and comfortable ride no matter which path you take.

Riders will notice that rebound and compression damping capabilities in the Turbo are fully adjustable thanks to the Fox shocks, so you can completely tune your ride to match your riding preferences. Top it all off with an air intake system that achieves 68 percent more airflow than a standard Maverick, and you’ve got yourself one heck of a utility four-wheeler in the Turbo X ds.

While this crossover utility vehicle was specifically designed for dunes and desert enthusiasts, the Can-Am Maverick 1000R Turbo is well-equipped to handle trails and mud ruts, too. Though if you really want to take advantage of its turbocharged engine and impressive feats of agility, then plan an ATV trip to Glamis or the Mojave Desert—you won’t regret it.
